I'm not a local, but I brought my clubs on a business trip in case I was able to get a round of golf in.
I booked an early weekday tee time solo. I honestly couldn't believe the price with a cart. I think it was like $17 for 9 holes with a cart. I know it's a public course, but there are more expensive public courses by me that are not nearly as interesting. I can't even get on a par 3 - 9 hole for that at dusk.
It's definitely an old course that's kept up pretty well. It could be better but considering the price and the course's age it's acceptable. It looks like as of October 2023, several tee boxes are being renovated, which is great to see. The greens could use a little bit of work but it was also late in the season and I'm sure there's a lot of duffers that have little respect for ball marks.
Some of the fairways were a little long and it was definitely wet everywhere but I did play just after sunrise in mid October. Perhaps it dries out later in the afternoon. Speaking of weather, I'm guessing due to the proximity of lake Ontario, it was about 10° cooler than it was when I left my hotel about 5 miles south. Bundle up if you're playing in the fall.
Some of the holes had some absolutely amazing elevation changes. Hole 4 has an awesome elevated tee box but also a blind second shot that's uphill. Be careful to make sure there's no one on the green after your drive because you simply can't see them.
There are a couple of split fairway holes instead of the more common dog leg. I think it was Hole 3 that I had absolutely no idea where the green was and what direction I should be shooting in. The starter was very nice and chatty.
There's definitely a decent amount of space between the holes and it's very hilly so I would definitely recommend a cart. It's under $10 and totally worth it.
Overall it was a great experience and I'm looking forward to coming back to play the full 18 soon.
Golfing in an historic wildlife setting...much fauna and nature...good excercise
Was recommended by a good pal named Mike! I wish he never told me about this joint. Place was an absolute swamp similar to shreks, with an atrocious odor penetrating my nasal cavity. Fairways were not cut, worst course I’ve played in Rochester . Could be nice but clearly upkeep doesn’t matter for $12.
Very nice course! Super hilly and a lot of challenging holes. One of the funnest courses I have every played.
Course is a toilet literally. There is sewage leaking out on a couple holes on the back 9. The grounds crew takes no care of the course. Most of the tee boxes are bare, the greens are so slow and the fairway is as long as the rough on some courses I've played.
I love this course but I wish they had proper cart paths put in so you can drive the carts in the rain instead of having to take a rain check
Great golf course with a relatively prestigious history. The course is a bit hilly to walk so take a cart. The original Donald Ross design presents some challenges and excellent views. The course is a publicly run facility so expect some mistreatment in the form of divots and ball marks on greens. Gorgeous views and dynamic holes. Presents a challenge for most golfers.
ONLY MAJOR PROBLEM: (STILL 5 STARS)
They need to do a better job at spacing out their tee-times! So much time waiting for multiple parties ahead slowing up everybody.... This seems to be an ongoing issue.
Please add more space between allowable tee times!
(will revise if this issue is fixed)
